PARTICIPATION OF HOUSEHOLDS IN VIETNAM’S NATIONAL TARGET PROGRAMME ON NEW RURAL DEVELOPMENT IN QUANG NGAN, QUANG DIEN, THUA THIEN HUE

Abstract

The general objective of the study is to analyze the factors affecting the participation of households in “Vietnam’s national target programme on new rural development” in Quang Ngan commune. From the data of 68 household heads interviewed, the study found that 5 out of the 17 factors included in the Probit model have impacts on the probability of household participation in the programme in the locality. The factors “Area of agricultural land”, “Experience in production”, and “Fishing” have a positive effect, while the factors “Number of family members having insurance” and “Satisfaction on Electricity” have a negative effect. The study indicates a statistically significant difference in the income between the group that participated in the programme and the group that did not. The study suggests that the New rural development programme in Thua Thien Hue should focus on providing the information on the programme to highly experienced farmers and increasing the agricultural land area of each household.
