NURSES’ KNOWLEDGE OF PALLIATIVE CARE AND RELATED FACTORS AT KIEN AN HOSPITAL IN 2018

Abstract

Objectives: To describe the actual status of nurses’ knowledge about palliative care in Kien An hospital and determine some factors relating to nurses’ knowledge about palliative care in Kien An hospital. Method: 90 nurses working at Kien An hospital. Using tools of Nguyen Thuy Ly which are translated and developed based on original tools PCQN (Palliative Care Quiz for Nurses). From the average values of marks on knowledge, we will specify the actual status of nurses’ knowledge and factors relating to the knowledge about palliative care in Kien An hospital. Time of data collection: from January to the end of March 2018. Results: 26,7% nurses are trained on palliative care, the number of nurses has college level and above (60%). Average mark on nurses’ knowledge about palliative care at minimum 13,34 ± 1,91 out of 30 marks, equal to 44.5%. Some factors relating to nurses’ knowledge about palliative care are: having qualification, being well-trained on palliative care, having experience on care for relatives suffering from fatal diseases. Conclusion: Nurses’ knowledge about palliative care in Kien An hospital is still low. Some factors relating to nurses’ knowledge about palliative care are: having qualification, being well-trained on palliative care, having experience on care for relatives suffering from fatal diseases.
