ASSESSMENT OF DEPRESSION IN CANCER PATIENTS IN ONCOLOGY DEPARTMENT, LANG SON GENERAL HOSPITAL IN 2019

Abstract

Objective: To assess the rate and severity of depression of cancer patients in Oncology Department, Lang Son General Hospital in 2019. Method: Descriptive cross-sectional studies were conducted on 151 patients 18 years of age or older inpatient treatment at the Oncology Department of Lang Son General Hospital from April 2019 to July 2019. Results: 74.8% of cancer patients showed signs of depression, including 16.8% of mild depression, 49% of moderate and 9% major depression. Depression is the highest among patients with stomach cancer. Conclusion: Research results find a high rate of depression in cancer patients. Therefore, nursing practice should focus on the fields of psychological support, attention and timely intervention to improve the quality of life for patients.
