CHANGE KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE OF TREATMENT ADHERENCE AMONG PATIENTS WITH TUBERCULOSIS AT CAO LOC MEDICAL CENTER IN LANG SON IN 2019 AFTER HEALTH EDUCATION

Abstract

Objective: To assess changes in knowledge and practice on outpatient treatment of tuberculosis patients at Cao Loc District Health Center, Lang Son Province after health education. Method: The design of a health education intervention study was compared before and after on a group of subjects with a sample size of 60 patients with tuberculosis in the stage of consolidation treatment for months from 3 to May 2019 at Cao Loc District Health Center, Lang Son Province. Results: Before the intervention, the proportion of patients who had knowledge of adherence to TB treatment principles accounted for 58.3% but 95% after 1 week intervention and 1 month after intervention. at a high level of 91.7%. Before the intervention, the proportion of patients practicing adherence to treatment reached 48.3%. But after 1 week of intervention, this rate increased to 76.7%; 1 month after intervention, 75%. This difference is statistically significant with p <0.05. Conclusion: The knowledge and practice of TB adherence at the consolidation stage at Cao Loc Health Center improved significantly after health education. Therefore, health education should be performed as a routine content at Cao Loc medical center clinic to improve knowledge and practice of TB treatment compliance for patients.
