KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES OF TRANSFUSION SAFETY AMONG NURSES WORKING IN MEDICINE DEPARTMENTS BEFORE AND AFTER TRAINING AT THE GENERAL HOSPITALTHAI BINH IN2019

Abstract

Objective: To assess knowledge and practices and determine the interdepence of the factors influencing blood transfusion safety among nurses working in Medicine Departments before and after training at the General Hospital Thai Binh. Method: A pre and post intervention study was performed on 43 nurses working at the General Hospital Thai Binh from april to june in 2019, which study about knowledge and practicesblood transfusion safety. Results: Knowledge of blood transfusion safety after training, there is 81.4% of nurses know the principle of blood transfusion, but still 65.1% of nurses do not know the role of blood type system in blood transfusion practice and nearly 50% of nurses do not recognize antigen-resistance in ABO blood group. With knowledge of blood preservation conditions and blood products, over 90% of nurses recognized the signs of blood sacs to ensure blood transfusion conditions, but only 58% of nurses know what to do when transfusionblood at a fast speed and large volume, after training this percentage reached at 67.4%. For knowledge of blood transfusion complications, still over 30% of nurses do not know the complications of blood transfusion after the training. In terms of practice, the average practice scores of nurses on blood transfusion procedures before and after training are over 35 points. Research could not find factors related to the knowledge and practice of blood transfusion safety of nurses. Conclusion: 60.5% of nurses had knowledge of blood transfusion safety before training, after training this percentagewas 67.4%. In practice before training, 86% of nurses achieved, after training 95.3% achieved. This study could not find factors related to the knowledge and practice of blood transfusion safety of nurses.
