KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICE OF SMALL LIVER FLUKE DISEASE OF PEOPLE IN NGHIA HONG, NGHIA HUNG, NAM DINH

Abstract

Objectives: Describe the knowledge and practice of small liver flukes of the people of Nghia Hong commune, Nghia Hung, Nam Dinh.

Methods: The cross-sectional study was implemented among 200 people at the research site from August to October 2020.

Results: The majority of people who know the cause of small liver flukes accounted for 86.5%, the percentage of people who correctly answer the main host, know 1 harmful effect, 2 harms,over 3 harms accounted for 53.5%, 61.0%, 18.5% and 20.5%, respectively. The proportion of people who have ever eaten undercooked fish/fish salad was 54.0%: of which 58.3% eat within 3 months, 18.5% eat from more than 1 year ago, 13% eat within 6-12 months, 10.2% have eaten within 6 months. 100% of households use septic toilets.

Conclusion: People in the commune have quite high knowledge about small liver fluke infections and the rate of small liver flukes egg infection was only 1.5% but in fact, they have not given up the habit of eating fish salad, the rate of eating fish salad / undercooked fish accounts for 54%.
