KNOWLEDGE, ATTITUDE AND PRACTICE ABOUT SAFE INTRAVENOUS INJECTION PRACTICES AMONG STUDENTS OF HANOI COLLEGE OF PHARMACEUTICAL IN 2021-2022

Abstract

Objectives:Describe knowledge, attitude and practice of safe injection and analyze the relationship between those factors to safe injection practice of 2nd year nursing college students of Hanoi College of Medicine and Pharmacy. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 125 second-year nursing students of Hanoi College of Medicine and Pharmacy from March 2022 to June 2022. Results: Students achieved knowledge, attitude and practice of safe intravenous injection corresponding to the rate of 72%; 85.6% and 69.6%. The results of the correlation analysis showed that: the percentage of students with safe intravenous injection knowledge who performed safe intravenous injections was 8.67 times higher than students who did not have enough safe injection knowledge. This difference was statistically significant with p < 0.01. The percentage of students with good injection safety attitude and injection safety knowledge was 11.9 times higher than that with no-good injection safety attitude. This difference was statistically significant with p = 0.01. The percentage of students with a good injection safety attitude was 9.9 times higher than the low intravenous injection attitude. This difference was statistically significant with p < 0.05. Conclusion: The study showed that majority of students achieved the knowledge, attitude and practice of safe injection. It also showed the relationship between knowledge, attitude and safe injection practice. From there, it can be seen that with knowledge, students will be confident in practice and have the right attitude about safe injection or knowledge is the foundation, the basis for students to have the right attitude and practice and readiness to perform safe injection in clinical setting
