Self-care status of type 2 diabetes patients at Bim Son town general Hospital, Thanh Hoa province

Abstract

Objectives: To describe self-care status of type 2 diabetes patients at Bim Son town general hospital, Thanh Hoa province in 2023. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 105 patients with type 2 diabetes being treated at the outpatient clinic, Bim Son Town General Hospital from April to June 2023.Results: The average self-care score of studied patients according to the SDSCA questionnaire was 4.3 ± 0.4 points (range: of which the 3.1 - 5.1). Among self-care activities, medication adherence was best performed by patients with a performance rate of 100% (mean score of 7.0 ± 0.0). Foot care activities were performed regularly by 63.8% of study subjects (average score was 5.4 ± 0.8). The activity of checking blood sugar at home has not been given much attention by patients; 2 patient regularly checks blood sugar at home (average score 0.6 ± 0.9). Proportion of studied patients classified as not good self care practice was high (accounted for 98,1%). Conclusions: Self-care status of patients with type 2 diabetes at General Hospital of Bim Son town, Thanh Hoa province is still low. It is necessary to strengthen counseling and health education to improve knowledge and self-care practice for type 2 diabetes people .Keywords: Self-care, patient, type 2 diabetes.
