The correlation between self – efficacy and dietary behavior of type 2 diabetic patients at An Binh hospital – Ho Chi Minh City

Abstract

Objective: (1) Determine medium score of self – efficacy in dietary behavior and the level of dietary behavior among type 2 diabetic patients at An Binh Hospital in 2023; (2)Determine the correlation between self-efficacy in dietary behavior and the dietary behavior of type 2 diabetic patients at An Binh Hospital in 2023. Method: Analytical descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 377 type 2 diabetic patients receiving outpatient care at the Endocrinology Clinic of An Binh Hospital in 2023. Convenience sampling method was employed. Data was collected using a self-administered questionnaire with good reliability. Descriptive statistics and Pearson correlation test were used for data analysis. Results: Dietary behavior is at a moderate level (76.43 ± 7.66). The average score of self-efficacy in dietary behavior for type 2 diabetic patients is good (75.53 ± 5.72). The study indicate a meaningful correlation between dietary behavior and self-efficacy in dietary behavior (r = 0.425, p < 0.001). Conclusion: There is a meaningful correlation between self-efficacy in dietary behavior and the dietary behavior of patients. There is a need for specific interventions related to improving aspects of eating behavior as well as having a greater interest in self-efficacy in eating behavior
