Abstract

Abstract: Iron in blood and serum of some adults are determined by reaction between sulphanilic acid (SA) and potassium periodate (KIO4) with the catalytic of Fe(III), in the presence of cetylpyridinium chloride (CPC) surfactant and 1,10 - phenanthroline (Phen) activator. The reaction was monitored spectrophotometrically by measuring the increase in absorbance of the reaction product at 310 nm. By this reaction in the range 10 - 40 µg/L can be determined, and limit of detection is 2.9 µg/L. In this paper, we applied to determine of iron in blood and serum, thereby evaluate accuracy of method. After treatment samples by two different ways, the iron content in blood and serum are 129.20 ± 9.72 (or 133.15 ± 9.85) and 1.32 ± 0.15 (or 1.42 ± 0.13), respectively. The recovery changes between 94.3 and 96.7% (or 95.7 – 104.7%) for serum and exhibits from 90.8 to 97.3% (or 96.7 – 103.3%).
