THE SPIRIT OF HARMONY ON TRUC LAM MEDITATION STUDIES UNDER THE TRAN DYNASTY

Abstract

The Tran Dynasty was a glorious dynasty, marking a fundamental turning point in the thinking and perception of Vietnamese people. Buddhism at this time was considered the national religion. Buddhism of Truc Lam advocated the fusion and harmony of Confucianism, Buddhism and Laoism, along with folk beliefs, and combination among practices of different religions, expressing the spirit of selflessness, non-attachment, and transcendence of Zen Buddhism. In terms of harmonious feature, thoughts of Truc Lam meditation under the Tran dynasty has met the need of different classes of the masses. The purpose of integration is to find a common voice, having a great contribution to ideological stability, unification of the entire people, creation of synergy in the context of
the times, meeting historical requirements, and building a great nation of Vietnamese independence with self-control in all fields. The spirit of Zen Buddhism of Truc Lam was absorbed and influenced by the Mahayana meditation and previous Zen studies, though there was creativity, it still basically kept the essence of the Buddhism.
