Experimental procedure of testing with the wave overtopping simulator

Abstract

    The simulator has been used to test the wave overtopping resistance of different grass-covered dike slopes in the North of Viet Nam. Test locations were selected to satisfy conditions of logistics and experiment. Steering file controlling the bottom valves is calculated using overtopping formulae of TAW 2002. All tests were conducted in a common procedure lasting about more than 4 hours including measurement of the slope profile, photography of the grass slope. Besides, flow velocity and flow depth were measured with the digital camcorder and the flow board giving relations between overtopping volume and these flow parameters. After testing, maximum overtopping discharge at each slope section was determined.
