Abstract

Annually, about 20 million tons of rice straw are harvested in Vietnam. Although straw isconsidered as a renewable resource and an economic commodity, straw has been burned in thefield for years due to the lack of demand for cooking. This paper analyzes the causes of thisphenomenon. Policy failures in straw management are now analyzed in terms of economics andsustainable economics. In this paper a numerous data sets (primary and secondary) were used. Asresult the integrated management of post-harvest straw is required, as well as the need for creatingand functioning the straw market by applying of direct and indirect pressure/policies in order tocreate a price or economic incentive to collect straw for further use. The burning of rice roots mustbe studied in order to kill/reduce the insect/pests and weeds in the coming season.
