Abstract

Vietnam, with a coastline of over 3260 km and more than 3000 islands and islets scattered offshore. Inaddition, the coastal zone plays an important role in developing marine economy, protecting security, ensuring national defense and sovereignty. This is also an area with potential for renewable energysuch as waves, wind and tides. In this study, Mike 21 SW model with unstructured mesh was used toinvestigates the wave energy potential along the Hai Phong coast. Data from the National Oceanic andAtmospheric Administration (NOAA) was used to initialize the Mike 21 SW model. The time period ofthe data was chosen from January 1999 to December 2018. The wave energy in the Hai Phong coastalarea was calculated for two scenarios: the northeast and south incident wave directions. The resultsshowed that the wave energy both two scenarios found to be below 2 kW/m along the coast of the wholemodel area.
