The experimental study of the effects of the guide vanes opening on energy characteristics of a reversible pump as turbine

Abstract

   This paper presents the experimental results to investigate the effects of the guide vanes opening on the characteristic curves of a reversible turbomachine, so called Pump as Turbine (PaT) when operating in 2 modes: pump and turbine. When the guide vanes opening increases from 5mm to 15mm, in the pump mode, QBEP (Best Eficentcy Point - BEP) increases from 218,22 m3 /h to 300 m3 /h while H decreases from 8,82m to 7,71 m. In turbine mode, QBEP increases from 270m3 /h to 320,9 m3 / h while H decreases from 9,78 m to 8,94 m. In the case of 10mm, the pump and turbine conduct the best performance with 77,07% and 72,8% respectively.This study builds and evaluates the operating area for a PaT . This is also the initial resultsand hassignificant in designing of this kind of machine in Vietnam
