Effects of the rivulet continuity on rain-wind induced vibration of cable stays
Abstract
This paper investigates the effects of the rivulet continuity on the cable surface on rain-wind induced
vibration of cable stays in cable-stayed bridges. The stay cable is modeled as a 3D model which is
developed using the linear theory of cable vibration and the central difference algorithm. The effects of
wind velocity according to the height are also considered. The results prove that the amplitude of the
cable vibration ratios with the length of the rivulet on the cable surface but it is inversely proportional
with the number of parts of the rivulet length. The effects of rain-wind induced vibration on the cable
vibration can be significantly reduced if the continuity of the rivulet is prevented
