Characteristic of organic matter distribution (toc%) of source rocks in Cuu long basin
Abstract
Cuu Long basin, which is considered as one of the most potential petroleum basins offshore of our country, the basin has been exploited at the rate of thousands-tons-oil per day bringing high economic benefit. Studying the distribution of organic matter helps us to find out the distribution of source rocks and their depositional environment to make the petroleum exploration more effective. Based on the analysis results of 391 organic matter samples of 19 wells, there are three sedimentary sequences which are qualified to be the source rocks: the lower Miocene, the upper Oligocene and the lower Oligocene + upper Eocene.
