Abstract

VAC is an artificial farming system combined by three basic components: Garden (V), Pond (A) and Animal Stable (C). This type of organic farm is internationally recognized as a sustainable production system in term of economy and environment. In Vietnam, however, most of researches have concentrated on the economic aspect. The environmental effects are not adequately considered. This research on two VAC and VACB (VAC + Biogas) farms was a case study in our VAC research series, aimed to evaluate the system in both economical and environmental aspects and to introduce environmental solutions in order to improve the productive and environmental performances of the system. The research showed a result of reuse wastes from/to each components V, A, C; especially in the case of combined biogas production gave a better performance in both productive and environmental aspects. From the study, we propose solutions to optimize the performance of each individual component of V, A, C and in one VAC system.
