The practice of the supply chain of rice in Mekong Delta

Abstract

Mekong (Cuu Long) Delta is one of the largest and most fertile in South East Asia. It is also the region with the largest food production and export in Vietnam, especially rice. Thanks to endowment of natural conditions, human, land and the increased application of advanced technology in the cultivation and production, Mekong Delta has produced higher and higher volume of rice, ensuring the food safety for the whole country. Faced with difficulties and more fierce competition, however, it is necessary to ensure a more stable life for farmers and increase the competiveness of this region. Many programs and polices have been implemented yet no significant results have been achieved. A solution which captures the concern of researchers is the supply chain of rice. To successfully apply scientific methods in managing and operating supply chain of rice, understanding the practice of the region is of importance. Therefore, this paper aims to provide a basis for the application of tools and mathematical models to solve problems of the supply chain of rice in Mekong Delta.
