Abstract

In 1757, Thoai Son – an area in the southern part of Vietnam, was officially ruled by the Nguyen Lords. Implementing the reclamation and establishing the sovereignty were the two processes that the Nguyen Lords carried out simultaneously, in which sovereignty establishment aiming to protect the legitimacy of the reclamation and achievements of the reclamation were the foundations to claim and affirm the long lasting and sustainability of the country sovereignty. Just during over one century, from 1757 to the later half of the nineteenth century, Thoai Son quickly became a melting pot of the Kinh, the Khmer, the Cham, the Chinese, etc. and a diversified socioeconomic area which played an important role in the development course of the South of Vietnam.
