Vietnam’s flexible approach to handle the relations with world powers at the Geneva Conference in 1954
Abstract
The 1954 Geneva Conference on Indochina is an international multilateral forum. Vietnam, participating in the forum dominated by world powers, had many difficulties taking advantage of the victory on the battlefield to have the upper hand in negotiations. However, our Party properly assessed the situation so that we could flexibly handle the relations with big powers participating in the conference to bring us great victory on the diplomatic front, which left many valuable lessons to Viet Nam’s foreign affairs, especially in dealing with major powers.
