Negative stiffness and application in reality

Abstract

With the one degree of freedom, to prevent the vibration from the base, the spring stiffness should be as low as possible. However, with same mass, the smaller the system is, the longer the initial deformation is. In reality, this deformation is restricted when it reaches a certain threshold. In this paper, the negative stiffness is introduced. When the negative stiffness is connected in parallel with a normal spring, the equivalent stiffness can become zero. The experiment is made to prove the capability of anti-vibration.
