Abstract

Manganese dioxide has been considered as a promising candidate of electrode materials for the rechargeable cells because of the natural abundance and environmental compatibility. In order to utilize the advantages of manganese dioxide, several effective methods have been developed to improve the characteristics of the electrode MnO2/C which had been used conventionally for primary cells. In the present work, co-deposition composite MnO2/additive electrodes were prepared by introducing the carbon powder into the anodically deposited hydrous manganese dioxide onto a graphite substrate from manganese acetate solutions. The surface morphology and crystal structure of the electrodes have been examined by Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Transmission electron microscope (TEM) and X–ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Cyclic voltammetry (CV) has been applied to evaluate the electrochemical capacitor performance of the prepared electrodes. The results demonstrate that mesoporous carbon powders are effective for increasing the capacitance and improving the electrochemical properties of the manganese dioxide electrodes.
