Cooperation among America and Mekong sub region nations in early XXI century

Abstract

Over the years, the U.S. has paid attention and promoted cooperation with the Mekong sub-region countries by implementing the meetings, sponsoring research programs to assess the situation, and by financial aid for environment, health and education.This "return to Southeast Asia" is in order to demonstrate the role of the U.S. in Southeast Asia as a counterweight to China in this area. The American - Mekong sub-region countries cooperation is creating more opportunities for sustainable development. Besides, there still exists challenges for the Mekong sub-region countries, particularly the energy security.
