AN OVERVIEW OF DIDACTIC APPROACHES TO TRANSLATION AND IMPLICATIONS TO TRANSLATOR AND INTERPRETER EDUCATION IN VIETNAM

Abstract

Studies on translation didactics cover various topics with different research types. In
terms of research area, there are inter-disciplinary and direct studies on didactic approaches and methods
of translator training. In terms of research type, these studies include both theoretical and empirical
research. The studies reviewed show a vast panorama of useful didactic approaches as well as different
highly specialized areas showing the nature of translation studies and translator education. The
development of translation didactics based on various research achievements leads to translators and
interpreters as the end-products of training with different types of knowledge and skills. The article
reviews approaches and methods in translation pedagogy from major authors with some implications
for translator and interpreter education in Vietnam.
