Abstract

The article approaches the research problem from dynamic synchronic approaches, analyzing the image of women based on Korean proverbs. The manipulations of surveying documents, classifying proverbal units according to semantic categories, and analyzing and relating to Vietnamese are used flexibly in combination to effectively solve the research problems. Research results show that women's negative image is reflected in various proverbs. It can be seen that the unfair, bad-willed attitude is strongly discriminatory, even somewhat cruel towards the bad habits of women. A woman’s life is depicted in proverbs as the life of those with inferior status, being always submissive and dependent on others. The vicious circle of the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law relationship shows that a woman's deadlocked life; the sense of equality, and respect for women are partially "sealed" by Confucian ethics. This is also the value of condemning injustices in the feudal society with the four virtues, the three rules of obedience of Confucian ethics reflected in proverbs.
