Our article is aimed at finding out the fact that the assertive activities in rhetorical questions in Che Lan Vien’s poetry strongly expresses the belief as well as the diversified emotional states of the speakers - characters. The assertive content was conducted by the author with the high responsibility through two main actions: asking-affirming and asking-negating. Based on the major theories for speech acts such as conversational theories (including conversational rules, etiquettes), theories of implicated meaning and based on analytical methods, we further classify assertive used in rhetorical questions in Che Lan Vien’s poetry into smaller sub-categories as follows: asking-affirming-praising; askingaffirming-philosophizing; asking-affirming-regretting; asking-negating-compassionating; asking-negating-praising; asking-negating-lamenting; asking-negating-blaming. These subcategories have been used indirectly in rhetorical questions. It is the delicate and effective way to communicate in any situation, through which readers and listeners are more easily convinced.
