The Preliminary Research on Micropropagation of Hippeastrum equestre Herb

Abstract

Hippeastrum equestre Herb. (H. equestre Herb) is a valuable ornamental as well as medicinal plant.  However, there has been less interest in carrying out researches on micropropagation of this species in Viet Nam. This study was conducted in order to establish the initial protocol for rapid propagation of H.equestre. Results of the research showed that the highest rate shoot - regeneration (94. 44%) was obtained with twin scale explants cultured on MS medium containing 5 mg/l BA. The optimal medium for shoot proliferation was MS supplemented with 1 mg/l BA and 0.5 mg α- NAA. On this medium, the highest rate of shoot propagation was 1.93 per explant after 4 weeks. Adding 0,2 mg/l α - NAA to MS medium promoted the root induction of the shoots with the rooting rate of 91.67%
