Abstract

Water stress is one of the most important abiotic stresses affecting plant growth and development, particularly germination. In order to evaluate the effect of water deficit on germination of different mungbean varieties, an experiment was performed in laboratory. In this experiment, ten mungbean varieties were evaluated at six levels of drought treatment by PEG-6000 (0 (distilled water), -3, -6, -9, -12 and -15 bars). Results indicated significant differences among the varieties and drought stress levels with significant decrease in percentage of germination, length of radicle, length of plumule, radicle and plumule fresh and dry matter. Based on the results, two varieties DX22, VN5 were found most resistant to water deficit.
