CURRENT SITUATION OF SURFACE WATER MANAGEMENT AND USE FOR PADDY RICE AREA IRRIGATION UNDER DROUGHT CONTEXT IN HOA VANG DISTRICT, DANANG CITY
Abstract
This study was conducted to propose solutions for improving the efficiency of the surface water system for paddy rice areas in the studied locality. The data collection, focus group discussion with the participation of related stakeholders, and field survey procedures were used in the study. The results show that most of the lakes and dams in the study area are of small and medium scale; therefore, the irrigation capacity has not covered the rice cultivation area, especially in the Summer–Autumn season. The use of mobile pumping stations to irrigate drought-prone rice areas is ineffective in high terrain areas. The surface water system has not met the irrigation demand in the district. Under these circumstances, the research has proposed solutions for paddy land use planning, irrigation system development, and local people awareness raising to improve the efficiency of the surface water system for paddy rice cultivation areas under local reality.
