Abstract

The paper analyzed the effects of distributed generation including small-scale hydro-power stations (SHPs) on electric power distribution networks. The calculations and simulations were performed for 372 E17.1 Moc Chau (Son La) to compare the effects between different integration levels of SHPs. Performance indices such as distribution line loading capacity, over-voltage, relay protection were chosen to determine hosting capacity of SHPs connected to the network. Among these indices, over-voltage is easier to be violated, whereas the relay protection relating index should be considered as a secondary one to evaluate the response of the protection system, and to propose solutions for specific networks. The results from this paper are directional in operating and dispatching electric distribution networks, as well as proposing methods to increase the hosting capacity of SHPs and other distributed generations integrated in distribution networks.
