ASSESSMENT OF THE WARNING CAPABILITY OF THE VNFFGS SYSTEM IN CRITICAL FLASH FLOOD EVENTS IN YEN BAI AND SON LA PROVINCES

Abstract

This paper analyzes and evaluates performances of the VNFFGS system in flash flood warning in several recent typical flash flood events. The evaluation is implemented based on the integrated analysis of the collected data and the products of the VNFFGS system such as rainfall, watershed characteristics, damaged areas, flash flood guidance (FFG) maps, and soil moisture maps. The causes and critical chracteristics of the flash flood events are also studied in depth. The system’s applicability and measure to improve VNFFGS performances are recommended in the paper as well.
