Abstract

In this study, the author team used the methods of mapping, assessing economic values and conducting field surveys to quantitatively assess the extent of damage caused by sea level rise on agricultural land on coastal district of Nam Dinh Province including mangrove forest, aquaculture land, salt-making land and rice-growing land. The study determined that the area at risk of flooding due to SLR impacts for 4 coastal districts of Nam Dinh province ranges from 1.3 to 10.7% of the natural area of the districts. Of the three land use options, according to the current land use status in 2010, the wetland area will be affected the most. At the same time, the study determined the damage value for 2 areas inside and outside the dyke with different damage levels. The total value of NCDs in the four districts ranges from 0.6 to 2.8% of Nam Dinh's GDP (compared to 2010) from 2020 to 2050. The assessment of these impacts will provide a baseline to help the locality proactively mitigate and adapt to climate change.
