RESEARCH ON GHG EMISSION FACTOR FOR STEEL PRODUCTION SECTOR IN Viet Nam

Abstract

The results of the research have showed the coefficient of GHG emissions for steel production sector which is made by actual maeasurement at Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Joint Stock Company. The GHG emission factor for iron and steel production processes of the company are CO2, CH4 and N2O. The largest CO2 emission factor is in coking process (0.59 ton/ton of product); Cast iron smelting process has the second largest CO2 emission factor (0.28 ton/ton of product) whereas the smallest CO2 emission factor is in steelmaking process (0.08 ton/ton of product). Emission factor from coking, cast iron and steelmaking process are low. The calculation of the GHG emission factor in this study contributes to the accuracy of the GHG inventory results, which is the basis for proposing measures to mitigate GHG emissions for the steel manufacturing sector of Viet Nam.
