Abstract

This paper informs results of studies on IR spectra, thermal stability and electricalproperties of the composites based on poly(vinyl chloride)/ethylene vinyl acetatecopolymer/calcium carbonate organically surface treated by a fat acid (PVC/EVA/CaCO3). The IR spectra of the composites showed that there were interactions between PVC and EVA as well as modified CaCO3 and PVC/EVA blend. Thermal stability was investigated by thermal gravimetry analysis (TGA). The TGA data indicated that CaCO3 could improve the thermal stability of the PVC/EVA blend. Electrical properties of the composites also examined. Theobtained results demonstrated that volume- and surface resistivities, dielectric constant of the materials increased with increasing CaCO3 content, the dielectric loss of the composites slightly decreased with rising CaCO3 contents. CaCO3 was able to enhance dielectric strength of the composites with its content smaller than 20%.
