Synthesis of nanosized NiO by the gel combustion method.
Abstract
Nickel oxide powder has been synthesized at low temperature (600oC) by the combustion of gel prepared from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Nickel nitrate. NiO product is examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) , thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET (Brunaure-Emmet-Teller) measurements. Further thermal treatment at 300 - 600oC in 2h yields the single phase NiO with average size < 30 nm. Its specific surface area is 32.57m2 for NiO.
