Synthesis of nanosized NiO by the gel combustion method.

Abstract

Nickel oxide powder has been synthesized at low temperature (600^oC) by the combustion of gel prepared from polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and Nickel nitrate. NiO product is examined by X-ray diffraction (XRD) , thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and BET (Brunaure-Emmet-Teller) measurements. Further thermal treatment at 300 - 600^oC in 2h yields the single phase NiO with average size < 30 nm. Its specific surface area is 32.57m² for NiO.
