Abstract

Nowadays, Line Start Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors are studied and
become more and more popular in order to replace partly for Squirrel Cage
Induction Motors due to high efficiency, no need to take reactive power from
power supply, constant speed in operation, higher density power in comparison
with the same power of squirrel cage induction motor and line start,… However,
in fact the motors may operate in non ideal conditions for example voltage,
frequency, ambient temperature,… In this paper, a typical failure of voltage of
power supply, temporary over voltage, affecting on these motors is studied.
Characteristics of speed and current of the motor in the failure time extracted from
simulation is used for evaluating. The simulation results in this paper are based on
the mathematical model of the motor and Matlab/Simulink software.
