Abstract
In literature summarizes the major theories used in the field of doing research. External rewards that influence the motivation of doing research are also summed up: salary increment, promotions, turnered, holding an administrative post, teaching loads, finding a better position at other university. The paper also suggests that future research will place these external rewards in the model of expectancy theory of Vroom (1964) to assess the impact of rewards on the lecturer's motivation to conduct research.
Keywords: motivation, doing reseach, lecturer, external rewards.
