Abstract

In an era of rapidly advancing science and technology, machine translation tools have made notable breakthroughs in the translation field. These tools are increasingly sophisticated and widely used by students in translation practice. Students’ perceptions play a vital role in understanding how they evaluate and use machine translation and are a factor in considering machine translation training within translation curricula. Accordingly, this study adopts an explanatory sequential mixed-methods design to examine third-year translation/interpretation-track students at the Faculty of English, Hanoi University, regarding machine translation’s impact on various aspects of translation, including translation accuracy, efficiency, and the profession itself. Results show that most students hold fairly positive perceptions of machine translation tools’ impact. It is hoped the study will provide useful references for guiding machine translation use, informing pedagogy, and expanding future machine translation research.
