Abstract

Economic co-operation and direct investment between Vietnam and Russia was established even before the former Soviet Union collapsed and the co-operation covered various fields. The political instability, especially the collapse of the former Soviet Union has somewhat left a negative impact on the economic co-operation and direct investment between the two countries, which is presented with a comprehensive analysis in the article, especially the co-operation in the oil and gas field, the potential and strength of each country and prospect for cooperation and direct investment in the future are mainly focused on. The article also presents a number of solutions to boosting the economic co-operation and direct investment between the two countries, which include.
  1. Strengthening the state role in formulating the policy and in bilateral management over the economic co-operation and direct investment
  2. Formulating and perfecting an attractive investment environment in the two countries
  3. Diversifying and liberalizing the forms and ownership of co-operation - investment projects as well as encouraging and protecting bilateral co-operation and investment.
  4. Encouraging and supporting the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) of the two countries politically, legally, diplomatically, economically and financially.
  5. Bringing into full play an active role of the Vietnamese community in the Russian Federation.
