Private economy in Ho Chi Minh City: the status and the trend for growth

Abstract

Ho Chi Minh City is a major economic, political cultural center of the country. With a high economic growth it is also regarded as a driving force for the national economy. Thanks to the doi moi policy since 1986, especially when the law on business was issued in 2000, the private economy has developed rapidly. Based on the reliable and updated statistics the article analyzes the status and development private economies in the city in several fields such as its growth, its contribution to GDP job creation, improvement of living conditions for the people, the boost for economic restructure in the city. Besides the article also analyzes the outstanding problems the limitations of the private economy, the weaknesses in the state management and especially the forecast of the trend for its development in the coming years.
