Khảm xà cừ là một vật liệu thủ công truyền thống độc đáo. Việc trang trí khảm xà cừ vào đồ thủ công mỹ nghệ đã có từ lâu đời tại một số quốc gia Đông Nam Á nói chung và Việt Nam nói riêng. Ở nước ta cho đến nay, vật liệu này được khai thác làm điểm nhấn trang trí đồ đạc nội thất bởi nhiều nhà thiết kế cũng như những thương hiệu nội thất nhỏ và vừa. Tuy nhiên cần lưu ý khi ứng dụng trong trang trí đồ đạc nội thất hiện đại phải đảm bảo một số nguyên tắc nhất định. Những nguyên tắc này tổng hợp dựa trên đánh giá đặc tính riêng của vật liệu trong môi trường khí hậu và văn hoá, thị hiếu bản địa của Việt Nam. Bằng việc đánh giá đặc tính của khảm xà cừ trong những điều kiện trên, bài báo nêu những nguyên tắc chỉ dẫn, gợi ý cho các nhà nghiên cứu và người thực hành thiết kế hiểu về vật liệu, qua đó đề xuất những giải pháp thiết kế đồ đạc nội thất trang trí khảm xà cừ một cách hiệu quả.
Abstract
Mother-of-pearl inlay is a unique traditional craft material. The use of mother-of-pearl inlay in handicrafts has has a long history in some Southeast Asian countries in general and Vietnam in particular. Up to now, this material is exploited as an interior decoration highlight by many designers as well as small to medium-sized furniture brands. However, it should be noted that when applying mother-of-pearl in modern interior decoration, certain principles must be adhered to. These principles are derived from an assessment of Recommend: the material’s unique characteristics within Vietnam's climate, culture, and local aesthetic preferences. By evaluating the characteristics of mother-of-pearl inlay under the above conditions, the paper outlines guiding principles and suggestions for researchers and design practitioners to understand the material, thereby proposing effective solutionsfor designing furniture with mother-of-pearl inlay decoration.
