Abstract

Cement production is an energy-intensive industry, generating a large amount of GHG emissions, especially CO2. The cost for energy in the cement industry accounts for about 30% of the total production cost. Cement industry is the largest GHG emitter of all industries (accounting for about 5% of total GHG emissions generated by human activities). Therefore, the assessment of CO2 emissions in the cement industry is a practical work, demonstrating Vietnam's commitment when joining the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. The study therefore aims to carry out an inventory of CO2 emissions in the cement production process at Bim Son Cement JSC, Thanh Hoa province based on the method of IPCC (2006). The average total emissions of Clinker production was 873 kg/ton Clinker in the period 2014 - 2020 and expected to reduce in 787.3 kg/ton Clinker in the period 2021 - 2030 due to the replacement of 25% of coal resource for the cement production process. The average total emissions of Clinker PCB40 was 473 kg/ton in the period 2014 - 2020. In order to reducing CO2 emissions at Bim Son Cement JSC, it is suggested that the company should diversifiy material sources as well as innovate production technology.
