Abstract

The MgAl-hydrotalcite materials modified by Co2+ ions were synthesized by coprecipitation method (denoted as nCoMgH). The calcined samples were obtained by the thermal tratment the nCoMgH materials at 500 oC in 5 hours (denoted as nCoMgH500). The characteristic structure of the calcined materials showed a layered structure similar to hydrotalcite, as well as a spinel-like structure, resulting in spherical particles on the background of the layers. Additionally, the nCoMgH500 materials had a large specific surface areas, and a significant decrease in band gap energy (for example, 1.58 eV for the 3.0CoMgH500 sample). The photocatalytic activity of the calcined materials were significantly enhanced when activated by persulfate. The highest CIP 10 ppm treatment efficiency reached up to 72.8% on the 1.5CoMgH500 sample after 240 minutes of illumination. Particularly, the 1.5CoMgH500 material was stable after 3 reused cycles.
