The situation of hypertension and some risk factors in elderly at Phuong Nghi, Nhu Thanh, Thanh Hoa in 2024

Abstract

Objective: The study was conducted to describe the situation of hypertension and some risk factors in the elderly in Phuong Nghi, Nhu Thanh, Thanh Hoa from 01/05/2024 to 31/05/2024. Methods: Subjects included the elderly with hypertension. The method was a cross-sectional study. Results: The rate of hypertension was 35.0%, in which men accounted for 33.3% and women was 36.6%. The rate in age group 60-<70, 70-<80, and ≥ 80 was 29.3%, 46.9%, and 66.7% respectively. The first, the second, and the third stage were 63.8%, 26.3%, and 7.9% respectively. In the first and the second stage, hypertension affected more women than men. Some risk factors associated significantly with hypertension included: age ≥ 80 (OR=2.20), family history having a person with hypertension (OR=5.96), abuse of alcohol or beer (OR=23.69), smoking (OR=13.06), BMI ≥ 25 (OR=2.97), insufficient physical activity (OR=6.34). Conclusions. Hypertension is still common in elderly particularly in women and elderly more than 80 years old, and hypertension is mainly in the first stage. Risk factors with hypertension were composed of age more than 80, abuse of alcohol or beer, smoking, family having a person with hypertension, overweight, and insufficient physical activity.
