Comparison of Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Needle Aspiration Cytology and Postoperative Histopathology in Thyroid Surgery Patients at Viet Tiep Hospital, Hai Phong, 2024
Abstract
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on 120 patients with thyroid nodules who underwent ultrasound-guided fine-needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital in 2024. Results: the majority of patients were classified as TIRADS 3 (51.67%) and TIRADS 4 (44.17%), while TIRADS 5 accounted for only 4,16%. Ultrasound-guided FNAC of the thyroid demonstrated a sensitivity of 100%, specificity of 96.49%, accuracy of 98.33%, positive predictive value (PPV) of 96.92%, and negative predictive value (NPV) of 100%. All patients diagnosed cytologically as malignant were confirmed to have thyroid cancer on histopathology, and all cytologically benign cases were histologically non-malignant. Among six cases with cytology suspicious for malignancy, four were confirmed malignant and two were benign on histopathology.
