ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND RESPONSE TO CLIMATE CHANGE IN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF BEN TRE PROVINCE FROM HOUSEHOLD APPROACH
Abstract
Environmental protection and response to climate change is a pillar in sustainable development of Ben Tre province. Based on a survey of 400 households in 4 communes and towns of Cho Lach district and Ba Tri district, and group discussions with local leaders in 2022, the article analyzes people's experiences and assessments about the impact of environmental and climate factors, environmental protection activities and response to climate change in lives and livelihoods. Households emphasized the negative impacts of saltwater intrusion, heatwaves, deviations from common weather patterns, drought, and reduced soil fertility. Households also applied some measures to protect environment and respond to climate change, but still simple. This situation raises implications for the priority goals and key solutions related to raising awareness, building synchronous institutions and technical infrastructure to promote the participation of households.
