Abstract

Charity and the motivations that drive this activity are a controversial topic for scientists in many different fields from anthropology, psychology, economics, and sociology. The study explores the level of people's charity participation and impact factors based on quantitative and qualitative survey data in 2022 in four provinces/cities of Vietnam. Research results show that: 1) The proportion of people participating in charity activities is relatively high (60.7%), although there are differences between regions, in which An Giang is the province with the highest proportion. 2) The socio-cultural differences of each locality such as conventions in social interactions and exchanges have led to differences in charitable practices across regions. 3) Religion, especially Hoa Hao Buddhism, has a strong impact on people's participation in charitable activities.
