THE ELDERLY’S ROLE WINTHIN THE FAMILY IN THE MEKONG DELTA REGION

Abstract

The United Nations General Assembly has resolved to designate October 1 as International Day of Older Persons each year. Elderly people are critical to the survival and growth of any family and country. During the conflict, elderly individuals in our country made significant contributions to the country's regaining of independence, freedom, and unification. Today, Vietnam is progressing towards industrialization, modernization, and international economic integration, and the elderly contribute to the development of good, civilised families and society. To better promote the role of the elderly in family and society, it is critical to recognise reality and honestly and scientifically examine the current situation in order to find meaningful solutions to the problem.
