Chân bản triều Nguyễn là tư liệu gốc mà các sử thần của triều đại đã dùng làm căn cứ để biên soạn khá nhiều bộ sách lịch sử và địa chí đồ sộ chưa bao giờ có trong các triều đại trước đó tại Việt Nam. Vấn đề đặt ra là loại tư liệu bậc một ấy có đáng tin cậy hay không, và sự khả tín của nó được đặt ra ở mức độ nào?
Bài viết nhằm tìm hiểu về phương thức xử lý các văn bản hành chính của triều đình nhà Nguyễn, giữa nhà vua và các quan chức thuộc Nội Các, Lục Bộ, Viện Đô Sát và Quốc Sử Quán mà sản phẩm của nó chính là châu bản và các văn bản liên quan. Ưu điểm của phương thức giải quyết này là có sự phản biện và chế tài đối với quyền lực tối thượng của nhà vua khi ban hành các quyết định liên quan đến quốc kế dân sinh.
Ngày nay, nhìn lại châu bản triều Nguyễn trên quan điểm sử học, chúng ta thấy loại tư liệu gốc này đã được thực hiện một cách bài bản theo một phương thức làm việc chặt chẽ, có sự liên đới chịu trách nhiệm giữa nhà vua với các đại thần ở Nội Các cũng như với các sử thần ở Quốc Sử Quán. Vì vậy, có thể nói châu bản triều Nguyễn, với tính xác thực và mức độ khả tín rất cao của nó, đã trở thành một di sản văn hóa mang đậm giá trị học thuật của nước nhà.
ABSTRACT
Official documents of the Nguyễn Dynasty are the source material for the historians of the dynasty to compile a larger quantity of history and geography books than ever before. The problem is whether this kind of source material is credible or not, and to what extent its credibility is confirmed.
The article is aimed at the method of handling administrative documents of the Nguyễn Dynasty, between the kings and the officials of the Supreme Council, Six Ministries, Supreme procuracy and the National Historiographe’s Office whose product was official documents and related documents. The advantage of this method is the criticism and sanctions of the king’s ultimate power when decisions related to national welfare and the people’s livelihood were issued.
Today, in historical perspective, we see that this kind of source material was methodically conducted with the mutual responsibility between the king and high-ranking mandarins of the Supreme Council as well as historians in the National Historiographer’s Office. So, it can be said that official documents of the Nguyễn Dynasty, with their high level authenticity and credibility, have become a cultural heritage containing academic values of our country.
